  • Overview

    The Senior Director, Business Development is responsible for Pharmaceutical Development and Commercial Manufacturing  field sales.


    Activities involve contacting and networking with outsourcing decision makers in virtual and emerging biotech, mid-size specialty pharma, and big pharma companies.  Senior Director, Business Development performs against sales targets by sales category and is involved not only in mining leads, but also in negotiating and closing pharmaceutical development agreements and commercial manufacturing supply agreements. 



    • Helps with the establishment of annual and yearly sales targets for the assigned sales territory.
    • Works with potential clients during the RFP process to ensure that Operations personnel in Halo have the necessary information in order to provide meaningful proposals.
    • Presents proposals to clients and prospective clients for pharmaceutical development and commercial manufacturing opportunities.
    • Presents Change of Scope documents to clients and negotiates with the potential client to agree to the fees, the timelines to completion and milestones.
    • Reviews intelligence reports concerning pharma R&D pipelines in order to make specific and targeted sales presentations within the range of dosage forms offered by Halo.
    • Assists with the negotiation of Pharmaceutical Development agreements and Commercial Manufacturing Supply Agreements.
    • On behalf of Halo, attends industry shows and exhibitions for those where Halo has a booth, and sets up appointments with prospective clients for those shows.
    • Listens to and resolves customer complaints regarding services, products or personnel.
    • Confers with company officials to develop methods and procedures to increase sales, expand markets and promote business.
    • Use the Halo CRM in order to keep track of the status of all opportunities.
    • Attends company meetings to exchange product information and coordinate work activities with other departments.
    • Works with management to formulate pricing policies for PD and Commercial Manufacturing activities consistent with the competing aims of high profitability and according to profitability requirements.
    • Other duties as assigned



    • Significant understanding of pharmaceutical development, manufacturing plant and laboratory operations.
    • Working understanding of standard costing regimens.
    • Basic understanding of legal documents in the areas of Confidentiality Agreements,  Pharmaceutical Development Agreements, Manufacturing Supply Agreements and Capital Agreements.
    • Customer Service - Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service.
    • Responds to requests for service and assistance and meets commitments.
    • Interpersonal Skills - Focuses on solving conflict, not blaming; maintains confidentiality; listens to others without interrupting; keeps emotions under control; remains open too others' ideas and tries new things.
    • Manages all sales activities within the Halo CRM.
    • May be required to remain sedentary for extended periods of time
    • May be required to move about the facility
    • May be required to wear personal protective equipment

    Bachelor's Degree (four year college or university)




    15+ years related experience
